This guitar is in unbelievable original condition and has only one small ding on the upper side (where your arm rests). It goes to show that some guitars did make it through the 80's without being modified or totally abused. This Charvel has serial number 3348 and was modeled after the Charvel that Allan Holdsworth designed with Grover Jackson. Unlike Allan's personal Charvels, this one does not have the strap button located on the back (through the neck plate) and typically Allan's had a matching painted headstock. The guitar has all the Holdsworth characteristics, volume, tone and coil splitting electronics (note the use of Fender style knobs as on Allan's), front loaded single hum, black pickguard, chrome Dimarizo vintage tremolo, wide neck profile (the necks measured 1 and 11/16 inches at the nut and the common 2 ¼ inches at the heel) and jumbo frets (6100). In fact on the work order you find written "Holdsworth" and each of these details specified. This guitar sounds incredible (factory equipped with a Duncan 59 humbucker) although the larger nut width makes the neck feel much larger and takes a little getting used to. The neck is lacquered (clear coated) and while I personally prefer the feel of an oiled versus lacquered or painted neck, I feel at home on this particular neck. The neck is beefier than most of the other Strat style necks that I have played but feels comfortable with the jumbo frets and thick ebony fretboard. Initials "SVS" and the date "3/84" are written in black marker in the neck pocket of the body in addition to another set of initials written in pencil, maybe "MJ" hard to see clearly. If you look at the neck you can see that there are two extra holes from where the paint stick (attached as a handle to hold the neck during the painting and drying process) was attached. The only marking on the neck is the initials "MJ" which are written in pencil. The guitar is very light (basswood body) and the white with all black hardware (other than the chrome tremolo) gives her a very elegant look. I always think of the Charvel advertisement featuring Allan and his red Charvel w/matching painted head in which he is dressed in a tuxedo, yeah that kind of elegant! This guitar was ordered by Hikari (I assume it is a person not a store) on 2-6 of ‘83 or ‘84. Not specified on the work order.
